Common name(s): Oregon Grape
Identification: evergreen stiff-branched shrub, leaves like holly but opposite.
Leaves:leathery opposite leaflets growing along reddish stems, with spiny teeth.
Flowers: bright yellow flowers in clusters.
Habitat: dry to moist forests, low to mid elevation.
Ecology: Painted lady butterlies use this as a source of nectar. Berries are a source of food for wildlife. Barberry loopers consume parts of the plant.
