Pomace-flies (Drosophilidae) – fungivores. A very abundant Drosophila, D. montana) that is important in the decomposition of fallen logs in the forest, is a major pollinator of skunk-cabbage (Lysichiton). Drosophila, whether they occur in fruit or in logs, feed upon yeasts. It would be interesting to determine if skunk cabbage inflorescences smell either “yeasty” or of ethanol.
